They come from all over the world, from all walks of life, from all beliefs and cultures. Male and female, young and old, small and large, tall and short, they have but one thing in common – they are Street Fighters. A breed apart from your average brawler, the Street Fighter is the ultimate physical fighting machine. Every year, once a year, they travel all over the world and battle each other for the world championship among their kind.

Most everyone familiar with electronic games has heard of Street Fighter 2 – the most famous beat-em-up series ever. Basically you get a bunch of fighters together (12 in this case) and get them to punch, kick, bite and thump the bejesus out of each other then you're close.

Here yet another slightly different version of the game. Special Champion Edition is similar in most respects to the original Street Fighter 2 except that all 12 characters are selectable from the get-go (the boss characters were originally locked) and the game engine has been revamped. Each has his or her own unique talents and skills, and each lives by the Street Fighter code.

Rather than focusing on storyline, Street Fighter 2: Special Champion Edition focuses on fighting technique and the player's ability to master the various moves of the different combatants. Each of their moves are executed through a series of joypad movements and button combinations. The innovative button design allows for three potencies of punches and kicks, which not only gives a greater amount of potential moves, but forces players to develop effective strategies to counter a variety of attacks. In addition, the ability to play multiple characters gives Street Fighter II: Special Champion Edition immense replay value.

This version for Genesis has re-worked sounds and voices if you compare it to the SNES version, with less colors, Although the options for Turbo made it a lot faster than its Nintendo counterpart The original Street Fighter 2 (aka Street Fighter 2 – The World Warrior) was apparently not released for the G/MD.
