Garten of Banban 7 is the latest in a series of short but terrifying horror games. You are a parent looking for their lost child. Your child has somehow found themselves lost in a place called BanBan’s Kindergarten, a location chalk full of monsters and alien-like creatures.

Just as the game opens, you are warned that “Case 8” is now on the loose, and to avoid him at all costs. The game does a great job of racheting up the pressure, with one terrifying scene after another, until the final culmination of the game.

Graphics are So-So

Although the plot of the game is well done and very much worth playing, the graphics aren’t the greatest, but it’s likely this was intentional. Most of the aliens of the game look like they are made out of clay, but the lighting and other details in the game are well done. It’s hard to say if the graphics are intentionally bad to make the game even scarier than it already is, or if it is simply the best they could do.

On the same note, the sound in the game is a little off. Areas of the game are too loud, while other areas are neutral. There are also problems with the dialogue, with obvious mic issues going on during some of the dialog.

The Game is Very Short

If you’ve played any of the other Garten of BanBan games, it won’t surprise you to learn this game is short. It can be finished in an hour of gameplay. The time on this game is stretched out for longer because if you die, you are sent back to the beginning. No checkpoints. A short game isn’t necessarily a bad one, but it is something to be mindful of if the game has a high price point. In this case Garten of Banban is on the high end of normal for a very short game.

The Plot

The BanBan games have been fairly popular all through their series, but the plot has definitely gotten off track since the first one. Garten of BanBan is released in short chapters, similar to Poppy’s Play Time and other, similar horror games. This means the plot might not necessarily make sense on it’s own unless you have played or watched someone else play all the other BanBan games.

In this part of the game you are still searching for your lost children, but it has devolved into good experiments vs. bad experiments, and so much more. The very end is a huge cliff-hanger, preparing the way for the Garten of BanBan 8, which will be released sometime this year.

If you have stuck with the BanBan series since the very beginning, chances are you will like this game. If you’re new to the series, it’s probably best that you start at the beginning rather than opening with this particular game. This game relies on a lot of context from previous games to make sense.
