White Day: A Labyrinth Named School

White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is a horror game originally released on PC that can now be purchased on PlayStation 4 and has a mobile version that is available for download on Android. The game takes place in a haunted Korean school and requires you to complete puzzles and tasks with the other students there. It’s somewhat similar to other horror games such as Outlast or Amnesia: The Dark Descent, but it does feel unique and has more of a focus on the tasks and puzzles than the actual horror.

Completing the Puzzles

As mentioned, the puzzles are the main focus of White Day: A Labyrinth Named School, so you will be completing brain teasers fairly often. The puzzles are not difficult and tend to have a common-sense answer that would only take a few minutes tops to guess. That being said, if you have any difficulty with one of the Puzzle, you can pretty easily look it up on Google and will likely find an answer.

Completing the Tasks

Tasks and puzzles can almost be considered one and the same for some horror games, but they vastly differ in White Day: A Labyrinth Named School. The main difference is that you will be interacting with the NPCs for a task. These include finding items and information from other students that will help you progress. Talking to these other students is important, so if you see one, make sure you find out as much as you can from them, almost every piece of information is valuable in this game.

The Endings

White Day: A Labyrinth Named School has 10 different endings, which is what gives it proper replayability. The ending you get depends on how you interact with the characters as well as what things you do and what you neglect. Each ending is somewhat bitter-sweet so don’t get caught up trying to find the perfect ending for this one.

Worth Buying?

If you want a game that will give you nightmares and is filled with jump scares, White Day: A Labyrinth Named School isn’t for you. However, even though it is a niche and specific playstyle, if an interactive story with some horror mixed in to make things interesting sounds fun to you, you’ll no doubt love this game.

This game is a refreshing change to the norm for the horror genre but just be prepared for puzzles and dialogue, because there is a lot of it.

7.5

White Day: A Labyrinth Named School is an underrated game that would likely have a strong cult following if not a mainstream appeal if it had more marketing. The game stands out with its puzzles and tasks taking up the main gameplay of the story. Although, this is why the game is not for everyone. What makes the game great is the interactions. Each character has their own purpose to the story while staying interesting and mysterious. It is implied that some of the characters are unreliable, while some just want to help you. This game of seeing through lies and knowing who’s good and who’s bad is what makes this game what it is.
