I will fully admit that I was not sure what I was not 100 percent sure what to expect from The Slaverian Trucker, but to say I was blown away is a massive understatement. This is billed as part survival, part open world, part driving, and part life simulator game all meshed up into one! It is truly impressive how many genres this game melds together and it makes for a truly remarkable experience that had me hooked for nearly a whole week straight, literally, I played nothing, but this for a whole week.

Surviving One Day At A Time

There is no big over-arcing narrative that is running alongside The Slaverian Trucker. Instead, it is all about surviving one day to the next and just trying to survive at first, but then eventually building up to a point where you can really thrive and be one of the main forces in this post-apocalyptic landscape. It is truly amazing stuff and in your mind, you will be living out your own Mad Max style adventure.

Being A Real Gear Head

There are so many aspects of The Slaverian Trucker that we need to discuss and to be honest, I do not have enough space in this review to do so, but I want to highlight a few of the mechanics and systems in the game that I loved. First of all, are the cars/trucks. You start with a truck and you need to make sure it has enough gas, and oil, is running right, and so on. Eventually, you can get new and better vehicles as well as upgrade what you have. The driving in the game has a bit of an unusual feel to it, kind of physics based which takes a while to get used to, but once you do it feels great.

One Job At A Time!

There is a bit of a gameplay loop here in The Slaverian Trucker where you take on basic delivery jobs for a place in one town and then drive it to another town, rinse and repeat. You get into a rather comfortable groove, but eventually, you will want more. There is so much you can do in this world; you really can forge your own path. You can gamble, scavenge, trade, and more. You can do whatever you feel is necessary to try and travel the path you want.

No Waypoints Here

The world that they have created here in The Slaverian Trucker is just amazing. It feels like a real wasteland and it seems like it goes on forever and even though this is not a huge AAA title, you will be amazed at how large this world is. I like how it is different depending on where you go to and the whole world is not flat too which is neat. I know that it may not be the best-looking game, but I love this whole grimy look it has. It kind of reminds me of the Junker Town map from Overwatch. This world has no waypoints a little paper map is your guide, but as you learn the land, you will start to feel like you know parts of the map like the back of your hand.

If I had to make a list of games that shocked me the most over the last five or so years, The Slaverian Trucker would 100 percent make that list! This game is not perfect and it does have a bug or two, but the developer is so open, honest, and friendly and they are working so hard to fix issues that pop up. And to be fair, I have played AAA games that have more bugs than this one! If you like open world games, you simply must give this a try.

Pros:

  • I love the way you feel like this is YOUR adventure
  • The whole mechanic aspect of looking after your vehicles is so well done
  • I like the gameplay loop that you get into here and it is a lot of fun
  • This open world feels like a truly harsh place and I loved that

Cons:

  • There are a couple of bugs here and there
  • I wish they could get some licensed music, this is just crying out for some Metallica or Motley Crue!
