The Ramen Sensei

Originally a mobile game, The Ramen Sensei is now coming to PC and it is bringing the same noodle filled fun management sim style gameplay that was on your little mobile screen to your big PC screen. I had a lot of fun with the mobile version of this and the PC version looks like it is bringing all of that charm to your desktop. I get that games like this are not for everyone, but if you do like this kind of thing (and noodles!) you really need to check this out.

Going For The Ramen Big Time

The whole purpose of the game is to build your own ramen empire. In The Ramen Sensei you start off pretty simple, you just make your ramen and then sell it. The progression in the game comes from opening your own restaurant, then making it a chain, then entering competitions, and then even coming up with our own unique ramen designs! The progression of the game is similar to something like Game Dev Story, you always feel like you are working your way towards something and it is that that keeps you going.

Making One Bowl At A Time

The gameplay of The Ramen Sensei is very, very addictive. You have to select the ingredients for your different ramen offerings and you need to do a good job as you want to hook in customers so that they become regulars. You will need to hire staff, keep things stocked, and always be looking to add more locations to your ramen empire. Rivals will eventually pop up and it is here where you have to be rather sneaky with your tactics to make sure that you do not lose your regular customers, staff, and money to these guys. The gameplay loop of this game is very easy to figure out, but it is there where the fun and addictiveness of the game are. From what I have seen, nothing new appears to be added from the mobile version, but using a keyboard and mouse will be way better than tapping on my Samsung mobile screen.

Remen Dev Story

I have mentioned Game Dev Story before and the people behind The Ramen Sensei did also make that game as well as other similar style games such as Grand Prix Story and Forest Camp Story. These games all share similar styles of gameplay, but it is the visuals that really let you know you are dealing with a Kairosoft game. The pixel art here is awesome and while things are small, they have a ton of detail. Actually, being able to play this on my PC and see things in a far greater detail is the main advantage of playing the game on my PC over my phone. The whole game just has a ton of personality and it is so much fun to look at.

8.5

If you played this on mobile and you enjoyed your time with it, I can assure you that you will also enjoy your time with The Ramen Sensei on your PC too. I liked it on my phone, but I do prefer being able to play it on my PC. The controls are better and it is awesome how much easier it is to see what is going on. Plus, you get a whole new level of appreciation for those fantastic pixel art graphics.

Pros:

  • I love the whole chibi pixel art style of the game
  • It is one of the better “story” games that this studio has made
  • I loved making all kinds of crazy ramen inspired recipes
  • The game has a very addictive quality about it

Cons:

  • From what I have experienced there is nothing majorly new to the game
  • If you did not like the mobile version, I do not see this winning you over
