Rabi-Ribi

Rabi-Ribi is a game about a cute bunny girl but despite the game having a “cute” kind of style to it all. This is a brutally hard platform and action game that will keep you on your toes. I consider myself a bit of a player when it comes to 2D action and Metroidvania style games and I am not ashamed to admit that this game kicked my butt, but I had a great time while it was happening.

Master, Where Are You?

The plot of the game is pretty crazy, but due to the whole game being kind of crazy, you just go with it and it all works. In Rabi-Ribi, you play as Erina who is a bunny… or used to be a bunny. She awakens one day and she is now a human bunny girl and her master is missing! She is joined by a fairy sidekick called Ribbon and the two set out to find her master.

The story is fun, but it has a real sense of lewdness to it, but it never goes all the way with it. I like this as it is more tongue in cheek and will make you smile with how cheeky the dialogue in the game is.

Smack It With A Hammer

The gameplay of Rabi-Ribi is fantastic. This is a very well-made game and a game that has incredibly tight controls. As you can see this is a 2D game and it has a real Metroidvania kind of thing going on as you are free to explore. You start with a basic melee weapon and you then get much more powerful weapons as you progress. The game is all about you changing up your tactics and not button mashing so there is a lot of skill at play here.

Like all other Metroidvania games, you will learn new abilities as you go. These range from things like a double jump and a wall jump. Moves that you will need to learn in order to access new areas that were previously locked. The game also has a ton of boss battles and these have bullet-hell style gameplay too! It all adds up for a challenging experience, but one that feels very fair.

Cute, But Deadly

It is impossible to look at the screenshots or the videos of Rabi-Ribi and not be impressed. These retro 2D sprites have a kind of unique look to them. They are quite low when it comes to the fine details, but everything is so bright and colorful that it holds your attention, and the various character and creature designs are truly awesome and give the game a ton of personality.

In fitting with the art style, they also have made sure the game has a very cool soundtrack too. It also has that retro vibe to it and I love it. The whole presentation of the game is wrapped up with some great high-quality artwork that moves the story along.
