How 2 Escape

What makes How 2 Escape such an exciting game is that it is a game that is very unique with its approach to multiplayer gaming. Honestly, it has been a little over two years since I had a gaming experience similar to what this is offering and me and one of my good friends could not be any more excited for this to be fully released. The game as I write this is pretty close to being completed, but there is a pretty substantial demo that you can check out if you want to try before you buy.

It Is So Much Better With Two

As soon as I saw the first trailer for How 2 Escape I got major flashbacks to an epic game capped Operation Tango which was a PlayStation Plus game a couple of years back. The idea there was that each player would play online on their own PlayStation 5, but they had to work together as one player was “in the field” and the other was doing the tech stuff. That is pretty much what we have here, but one player is on their PC and the other player is using their phone via the free app.

We're On A Train Track To Hell!

One of the things I appreciate about How 2 Escape is that on the official Steam page, it is full of these awesome train puns, and as someone that loves a good (or even better, a terrible pun) that gets a thumbs up from me. Anyway, this game actually has a rather cool mystery story that runs alongside it which I am getting a huge kick out of. The character on the train is called, Emy, and she has awoken up on here and each carriage is like its own escape room that she needs to figure out or she dies! Her brother, Johann is on the phone and trying to help her figure out the traps and puzzles, he is pretty much her “guy in the chair” to borrow an idea from my boy Ned in Spider-Man.

Playing On The Train

The player in How 2 Escape that plays as Emy will be on the train and each carriage puts forward a unique challenge for her to figure out, time is also the enemy here as the longer it takes, the harder it is for her. Playing as Emy will see players needing to explore each carriage and try to get at least a basic idea of what is going on. She may come across a weird picture, some kind of puzzle or device that she will need to tinker with or figure out in order to get out of this carriage and into the next one, but she cannot do it alone.

With A Little Help From My Friend

Yup, a Beatles reference for you, now that is epic. Now, playing as Emy is great, but for the player who is using their phone, they have a different set of challenges at hand. They will need to use the app to try and figure out what things are in order for Emy to be able to solve puzzles and know what the hell she is doing. You may think that all of the gameplay is going to be on Emy’s side, but that is not the case at all, those playing as Johann have just as much to do as Emy. If anything, those who are using the app probably have to think more!

Pros:

• This is one of the best 2 player games of the year!
• I love the whole story of what is going on with this train
• Playing this with a friend is so much fun
• No matter which part you play, this game will keep you on your toes

Cons:

• This game is better if you play with someone that you know
• I wonder how much variety to the puzzles there will be so that we have a reason to play through it multiple times
