I think every review I have read of He Fucked the Girl Out of Me used the term “raw” at least once. That is not a gimmick, it is the most appropriate word to use for a piece of art like this. This is unlike any video game I have played before and the way that the very talented developer was able to make me feel like I was in her shoes was just incredible. The way that she brought her terrifying and heartbreaking story to life through a video game is just so hard to put into words as far as how it impacted me.

The Truth Is Scarier Than Any Horror

I do not want to go into all the ins and outs of the story of He Fucked the Girl Out of Me as it is the kind of thing that you have to experience for yourself. Basically, this is the semi-autobiographical story of the developer, Taylor McCue, and what she went through as a trans woman in the sex work trade. Nothing I can say here can prepare you for what you are going to experience. If you are someone who cannot handle games that feel real and “raw” you are probably best staying away from this.

A Story That Needed To Be Told

However, with that being said, He Fucked the Girl Out of Me is telling a very important story, and as I said in the introduction. The developer manages to make you feel with her, I clearly cannot imagine what she actually went through and how hard it was, but in a very small way, I felt like I was in her shoes, and as the writing was so real and again so “raw” it made me feel so unconformable and made me wish that there was something I could do to help.

The Ghost Of My Past

While He Fucked the Girl Out of Me deals with some very dark and messed up things as far as the story goes. The game is made to be a Game Boy game and that gives it a very unique art style. The way that our main character is represented by a cartoon looking ghost at first makes you smile and think it is cute, but it just adds to the disturbing nature of her story and what she went through. It is very unique that she went for an art style like this, but she absolutely nailed it.

Scared To Do Or Say The Wrong Thing

There is a specific scene in He Fucked the Girl Out of Me where a guy has his hand on your leg and you get to decide what you do and it legit made me think for a while as I was so scared of what would happen if I tried to fight. This is a mixture of a visual novel and a little bit of an adventure game as there is a bit of moving around here. However, this game is 100 percent about the story, but at the same time, I felt like pretty much every one of my actions could have a major consequence.

I truly do hope that making He Fucked the Girl Out of Me gave the developer some kind of relief or helped them find peace with what they went through as it does end with a bit of hope for the future. This is more than a video game, it is truly a piece of art, I have been playing games since the 80s and I have never come across something like this. It is the kind of thing that I feel should be experienced by everyone, but at the same time, I am not sure that everyone can handle it! Perhaps the fact it does make you so uncomfortable is the reason we should all play it as the issues that this lady went through need to be addressed and not ignored or have us put our heads in the sand.
