Fat Princess

With its cheeky charm and stylised gameplay, it isn’t hard to imagine this hilarious title came out in 2009 at the height of tongue-in-cheek brutality that swept the gaming industry around that time. Team up with friends or strangers and put on your hat as you make a young woman with a clear eating disorder outrageously fat while you kill all her employees in Fat Princess by Titan Studios.

Gameplay

So this game is pretty interesting and the objective is a piece of cake. It provides an entertaining twist on the well worn ‘Capture the Flag’ gameplay that we all know and love. Your objective is to rescue your princess from the enemy teams clutches all while providing their princess who is in your possession with cakes to make her as fat as possible. The fatter she is the heavier and more difficult she is to carry back to the enemy base but bear in mind, the enemy is doing the same thing.

There is a unique class system within the game that allows you to switch out your class by switching out the hat you’re wearing. Wear a wizard hat to be a mage and fling spells at the enemy, wear a worker hat to provide wood and build catapults for other players to manoeuvre the map with greater ease or wear a helmet and take on that glorious hack and slash combat we all thirst for and much, much more. Everyone has their part to play and when the team works together efficiently, retrieving your princess is a breeze.

There is a multitude of different game styles available. The styles are story mode, quickplay, team deathmatch, invasion, snatch and grab, queen’s rule and gladiate are all pleasantly different in the content but equally genius in the execution.

Style

This game may look cute and cuddly but on the inside; it’s so much more. It has a hilariously brutal element where it brazenly admits it’s a fight to the death. Swords, axes and explosions provide a great deal of blood and dismemberment and this along with the adorable Cell Shaded art style, the game is provided with an incredible amount of personality and charm all the way down to the ending credits being the player taking control of the Grim Reaper and hacking up the developers to Sir Mixalots hit song Baby Got Back.

I couldn’t help but draw a conscious comparison between this game and Fairytale Fights, a game that offers the same sort of brutality under the cute façade, with nearly identical animation style and kill physics.

Multiplayer

The strong suit of this game, and what provides most of its challenge, is the multiplayer aspect. You dive into the gore with games that host up to 32 players. Working as an effective team is what separates you from the enemy and will better ensure your success as everyone has to contribute to the team’s task in their own unique way.

9

Fat Princess is a joyous gore fest that can put a smile on anyone’s face. Hectic and hilarious, this title offers a great deal of game modes to ensure that replayability for hours and hours.

Pros

  • Brilliant art style
  • Lots of content
  • Fun to play

Cons

  • Can be difficult to follow the action
  • Teammates can ruin the game for you

Game Reviews

Multiplayer video games are more popular than ever before, but many of them feel very similar. Nowadays, it's hard to find a multiplayer game that isn't a battle royale, first-person shooter, or a goofy party game. Fat Princess, although it's very silly, is one of the few unique multiplayer games of its time. In this fantasy adventure, you and your loyal team must guide the royal princess to safety by carrying her from the frightening battlefield and back to your home base. However, the fatter the princess gets, the more work it will take. This hilarious multiplayer battle will challenge your strategy and tickle your funny bone, and it's even better with friends aboard.

Main Game Features

  • Hilarious team-based online battles
  • Six classes to master
  • Story mode and 5 types of multiplayer modes

Basic Gameplay

Fat Princess is a 32 player, mostly online multiplayer game where your main objective is to protect the princess! In every mode, two teams of 16 players face off, and must build and upgrade their base as they plot a battle plan against enemy forces. Played from an isometric point of view, like Starcraft 2: Wings Of Liberty or Diablo 4 you control one warrior, moving around the battlefield as you attack enemies and gather materials. While the objectives vary depending on the mode, the general path of progress requires that you explore the map, maintain and upgrade your base, and use weapons and items to weaken opposing defenses. At the end of each round, only one team is declared the winner, no matter how long the war takes!

The best part of Fat Princess is the mix of strategy and action, as there's a big difference between base management and all-out battle. As you explore the map, you'll find wood, metal, and other resources, which can be used to build new defenses or fortify existing ones. When you jump into battle, you have six different classes to pick from, including Priest, Warrior, Mage, Villager, Worker, and Ranger. Each class uses a different weapon and is best suited for different roles, making it loads of fun to discover the strengths of every class. Mixing classes is the best way to maximize your battle efficiency, while smart resource collection and base management is needed for long term wars.

Modes of Play

In total, Fat Princess contains six different battle modes. The best way to experience each mode is by checking out the Legend of the Fat Princess story mode, since the rules of battle are changed for each chapter. The core mode is Rescue the Princess, where one team attempts to free the princess from the opposing team, while the other defends. Defenders can make the princess more difficult to carry by feeding her slices of cake, making her fatter with each bite. If escorting an obese princess around the map doesn't sound appealing, don't sweat it, as a standard Team Deathmatch mode is also included.

There are quite a few maps to play on as well, with differing landscapes, paths, and points of interest to consider. Some modes are even map-specific, including the Queen's Rule mode, which is basically a match of soccer with battle items. Other objective modes are available, such as Invasion mode, where you must conquer more outposts than the other team to assert dominance. One of the best modes in the game is Gladiate, a free-for-all battle where you must choose your favorite class and fight through 12 rounds of enemies, hoping to survive to the end. Basically, if you like isometric real-time strategy, Fat Princess has a mode you'll enjoy.

Conclusion

Fat Princess takes a classic fairy tale story of an army guarding their princess and turns it into a special battle of cupcakes and chaos. Not only is the concept exciting, but there's a lot of variety, with six character classes and unique modes to try.

7

Supporting up to 32 players at once, Fat Princess is a multiplayer game that is much better than your average online battlefield.

Pros

  • Fun multiplayer with cool ideas
  • Great cartoon art style
  • Mix of combat and resource collection

Cons

  • Battles can drag on for a while
  • Story mode isn't super interesting
  • Can be tough without smart teammates
