Given its popularity as potentially the most famous FPS game of all-time, Counter Strike has seen many a release to improve the original game. The modding scene is massive, which gave life to the highly popular Counter-Strike Xtreme V7. As the name implies, this takes everything that you might expect from the traditional CS experience and magnifies it by ten.

First released in 2011, the mod has become a bit of an icon among CS players. How does it hold up today, though? Let us take a look.

Energising chaos built on a foundational title

One thing to note about Counter-Strike Xtreme V7 is that it is a mod for the original CS game itself. It is not a standalone game, but it requires you to have access to the original game as well. This mod adds a whole host of features that are simply not present in the old game, meaning that it contains many ideas and functions that you would not expect to find in CS.

If you wanted to compare it directly to another FPS title, it now resembles something more like Quake than CS. It is a very unique concept, adding a lot of fictional and fantastical guns, characters, and features into CS itself. This mod is one of the most popular of its kind, though, adding a fresh energy and innovation to the title. If you have found that CS in the past has been a bit barebones, or a bit too serious, then this adds elements that simply are not present in the original game. The end result is a whacky mod that introduces a whole range of concepts that removes itself from the grounding of the original title.

One thing to note about Counter-Strike Xtreme V7 is that it does have quite a lot of issues when it comes to performance. Like any mod that continues to grow, sometimes the ambition can feel like it outstrips the capability of the title itself. With so many ridiculous modes added like zombie survival modes, though, it can be a more classic take on things like the Call of Duty zombie modes that are so popular with FPS gamers.

There is much to like about this game, with its cartoony nature and its zany guns definitely adding something different to what is a pretty packed genre. And underneath all of the madness there is still the flawless gameplay of CS, so you can still enjoy a highly enjoyable gaming experience.
