Detective Child

Lyra Belacqua lives in a world ruled simultaneously by magic, theology, and science. While airships fly over her city--in the skies of the North Pole witch clouds cleave. In such a world, bereft of her parents, Lyra embarks on a complicated adventure. In Oxford, Lyra's hometown, a mass disappearance of children has begun. Who is behind it and where the children are disappearing is what Lyra has to find out.

Soul Beyond Body

Everyone in the world of the Golden Compass story has a kind of guide that reflects the soul of its owner. Such guides are called dæmon and appear in the form of an animal or bird. In children, whose character has not yet had time to form, dæmons can change the appearance of any animal that is close to the spirit of the owner. Adult Damon loses the ability to reincarnate and remain the animal that most accurately reflects the essence of the owner. Lyra's Damon, Panteleimon, has not yet lost his ability to reincarnate. It was Pan's abilities that became the main gameplay feature :

• Image of the Sloth - Pan the sloth acts as a kind of whip. Lyra tosses Pan to the protruding beam and it easily serves as a rope.
• The Ermine - he analyzes the situation, finds hidden clues and secret ways
• The image of the Hawk - allows Lyra to glide across surfaces or under objects
• Image of the Wildcat - cats can climb where they aren't always supposed to be. Pan helps Lyra climb walls or the roof in this image

Hail to the Bear King

Perhaps the main face of the entire Golden Compass saga was the polar bear in armor. Panserbjørne is an entire race of intelligent polar bears that live for battle and are always ready for war. The bears' armor is similar to the dæmons of humans and contains a piece of their soul. Yorek Byrnison, one of the bears, became a friend of Lyra and helped her in many ways. Some of the missions of the game need to be done just for Yorek.
