Super Hang-On is two motorcycle racing games in one. You have two mode to choose: arcade and original. The arcade mode is a straight translation of the coin-op game. It is racing pure and simple, pitting you against the clock. The race takes you through Africa, Asia, America, and Europe. Each continent varies in difficulty and features multiple stages. You can choose the continent from which you want to start the race, so Africa is beginner, Asia is junior, the Americas are senior, and Europe is expert. This is a very simple and straight forward game. The original mode is a Genesis exclusive, and it features more challenges and options, making for a more realistic game. It also features a brand new racing circuit.

As you progress through the original mode, your bike will succumb to wear and tear and it'll need repairs. Crashing your bike and colliding with other motorcycles increases the damage to your bike. You'll have to buy replacement parts and hire a mechanic. If you've got a lot of money, which you get by winning races, you can buy expensive parts and build a really powerful motorcycle. The original mode also features a password option so you can keep the upgraded motorcycle you had from the previous game.
