Toast the Toads

Tough bunny is right, but never call Bucky a "bunny" if you know what's good for you! He's the roughest, toughest space fighter in the known Aniverse, a parallel universe where animals rule.

Bucky O'Hare, Konami's singleplayer NES action/adventure game, continues the storyline from the TV cartoon and the comic book as the long-eared space ace attempts to thwart the evil Toad Empire in its plans to enslave the Aniverse. This time the Toad Marshall's captured four members of Bucky's crew and stashed each one of them on a danger-filled planet. Bucky must face the perils of the four planets and rescue his warrior friends. Each one he finds joins him, and you can switch characters instantly to take advantage of their unique skills.

No Laughing Matter

Bucky's graphics are Konami clean. The characters look cool, and there are some nice other worldly backgrounds on the planets, too.

Bucky leaps from planet to planet, fighting through jungles and boulder- strewn terrain, across rivers, and around volcanoes, on icy slopes, and in darkened tunnels. Each planet has eight or more stages, some horizontal and some vertical.

ProTip: Don't worry about the volcanoes on the Red Planet. When they blow, stand still. Better to take a light hit from flying shrapnel than to slip into a lava pit.

You run up against an army of Storm Toads and weird space creatures, but they're the least of your worries. What makes you hopping mad are the game's imaginative obstacles. Bucky must hitchhike on meteors, outrace lethal streams of lava, ride Ice Snakes, and more. However, the unlimited continues may cool the game's challenge for players who like to suffer.

Multiple Personalities

Without your friends it's rabbit stew for you! The key to completing your mission is knowing which character to use and when. Bucky O'Hare's unique feature is the easy-to-use quick-change ability of the on-screen character. Like in Turtles I, you can switch from character to character at will (if you rescue them all), but in Bucky O'Hare, you switch with just a quick press of the Select button.

Each character's skills are best suited to particular chores. Look to Bucky when you need a sure shot (straight-on or overhead), a high jump, or a quick escape.

Pilot Jenny, the Aldebaran Cat, transmits a magical beam from her feline forehead. First Gunner's Mate Dead-Eye Duck totes a three-way shooter that clears out enemies lurking ahead in high and low places. Android First Class Blinky flies a little and fires optional cannon. He's also the smallest character, so he can squirm through places the others can't. Willy DuWitt the Earth Boy, carries a laser cannon that packs a powerful punch.

  • Since Blinky's smaller than the others, use him to squeeze through tight passages where extra lives and power-ups are hidden. He's great on ice.
  • When battling bosses, head for the center of the screen and stay there. If you've picked the right character, you'll be able to blast the boss without moving far from center.
  • Let Bucky take care of the boulder- tossing Atlas-like boss on the Green Planet. Will and his laser are the best bet for the mechanized metal monster on the Red Planet Try combinations of characters against other bosses until you find the right ones.

Outer Space Fun and Gun

Bucky O'Hare is not a game for dumb bunnies, but the unlimited continues put persistence on a par with skill. On the surface this game looks like lighthearted fare squarely aimed at younger kids, but it's brimming with hotspots such as the giant mechanical snake maze on the Blue Planet and the flowing lava on the Red Planet that will challenge even the best player.

Bucky's good finger-flexing fun. Even if you don't like the comic book, the cartoon, and the action figures, you'll like the game. Expect to see young Bucky fans multiplying like... like kids in math class.

While you'll find a lot of features in this game reminiscent of other titles, the overall package that Bucky O'Hare delivers is on target. Although the difficulty is a little on the tame side, the overwhelming assortment of power-ups, enemies and settings this game provides more than make up for its shortcomings.

Another winner from Konami! Bucky O'Hare proves that the 8-Bit Nintendo can still play a great game - at least when Konami's at the helm! Take your standard action title and expand it with more power-ups, more enemies and better play mechanics and you'll get the idea! Plenty of technique from beginning to end!

This is what video games are all about. The game play is absolutely great. The graphics are not 16-Bit quality but surprisingly there is a lot of parallax scrolling. The different characters are awesome though and you can fly, climb walls and more. This game is great fun from beginning to end!

The NES lives! Bucky O'Hare brings the Nintendo Entertainment System to life as its colorful graphics and sharp controls light up the screen. Talk about power-ups! The variety and challenge is ever increasing for beginners and experts of video game action carts. Bucky should hop his way to NES machines everywhere.

Bucky's crew is captured by the Toad menace! You must explore four different planets to locate and free your comrades from the mutoid thugs holding them hostage! Run, jump and shoot through challenging obstacles and use your super jump to get past any tight situations.

In the tradition of Konami's other smash hit four-player action games, such as Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, X-Men, and G.I. Joe, comes Bucky O'Hare. Based on the hit afternoon cartoon series and a very successful toy line, this game is a visual and aural arcade feast!

The graphics in this side-scrolling action/adventure game are better than the TV cartoon! Extremely detailed and finely rendered multi-layered backgrounds create a believable sense of perspective. Captain Bucky O'Hare, Dead Eye Duck, Jenny, and Blinky the Android are all large, well-rendered, and smoothly animated characters.

You'll be amazed by the size and the speed of some of the bosses. Each character possesses a different weapon and uses special fighting skills as they face off against the vile hordes of the Toad Military Forces. An assortment of power-ups and bonus items appear sporadically to assist our quartet of heroes in their endeavor to rid the galaxy of warty evil.

An intense rock 'n' roll soundtrack, plus tons of digitized speech and sound effects make you feel like you're playing the cartoon, not a video game. The only predicament you'll have with Bucky O'Hare is whether to watch or play!

Join Captain Bucky O'Hare and his crew as they battle the evil Storm Toads. Captain Bucky must rescue his friends from the vicious Toad Air Marshall, and try not to toady under to the nasty amphibians. It's a tough job, but some bunny's got to do it.

The Toad Air Marshal and his computer-controlled Storm Toads are frog-kicking planets throughout the galaxy, spreading terror and warts as they go. Won't some bunny stop them? Yes, Bucky O'Hare! Here's a preview of this hot game due to jump out of Konami in early 1992.

Hopping Mad Action

Bucky's a heavy metal hare with a rocket who's ready to rock and roll. You take Bucky and his five heroic friends across five planets in search of the Toad Air Marshal's headquarters. Each planet has eight or more rounds full of hare razing terrain and angry space creatures. You get detailed Konami style graphics in side view multi-scrolling action.

Each character has a special ability and, naturally, you have to figure out the best person for the job at hand. Bucky's shots have the longest range, and, of course, he can jump the furthest. Pilot Jenny, an Aldebaran Cat, focuses a mind blast from her feline forehead. First Gunner's Mate Dead-Eye Duck packs a three-way shooter that covers mucho territory. Diminutive Android First Class Blinky flies a little and fires a short range cannon. Wily DuWitt, the Earth kid, controls a powerful laser cannon. Simply pressing Select enables you to cycle through your team at any time (just as in Konami's Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles).

Hare Today

Bucky and his friends are currently planet-hopping in their own cartoon series, in a comic book, and as a set of action figures. They'll be leaping out of your NES soon!
