Risky Woods is a pretty old game for the Sega Genesis, it came out in the early 1990's.

Risky Woods is your fairly typical side-scrolling hack-and-slash game. Occasionally you have to ascend or descend, or traverse the landscape in ways similiar to the Strider series.

The landscape of the game takes place in, surprise surprise, woods. Not just woods. Hills, plains, grassland, forests, more woods, and an occasionally they'll throw you a real curveball and there's river for you to jump across. Jumping from different heights (from the ground up on a small hill to avoid monsters, etc.) is common.

The object of Risky Woods is to free some gods from stone. So you progress through the levels, jumping over monsters, whacking monsters with a sword or if you're really fortunate, throwing daggers. When killed, they leave coins to be collected – these are spent in the shop sections. At the end of each level there is a boss. You must kill the boss to free a god from his nefarious stone prison.
