A combination of Pac-Man and Tetris, Pac-Attack mixes the ghost-gobbling action of the former with the falling block puzzle aspects of the latter. Your job is to maneuver the blocks into lines so they will vanish from the screen. Ghosts also fall from the top of the playfield, getting in the way of the solid lines you are trying to form. Luckily, Pac-Man accompanies the falling blocks from time to time, allowing you to maneuver him into a position to munch the ghosts.
Combining two of the greatest videogames of all time, Pac-Attack is one-part Pac-Man, one-part Tetris. Blocks of various sizes drop from the top of the screen, and you have to arrange them to form even lines. Unlike Tetris, there are ghosts that will periodically fall from the top of the screen as well, and you'll have to maneuver Pac-Man around the board trying to catch them.
There's three modes of play in Pac-Attack. There's Normal Mode, where the pieces just drop and you last as long as you can. There's Puzzle Mode, where you have to clear all the ghosts with only a certain number of Pac-Men. And lastly there's Versus Mode, where you and a friend can duke it out. The main premise of the game is this: Pieces are falling that have ghosts and blocks in them. You clear the ghosts like in Tetris, and you must clear the ghosts like in Pac-Man. After a number of pieces fall, a piece with a Pac-Man in it will fall, and you must position Pac-Man in the best spot so he can consume the most ghosts before hitting the bottom.
Puzzle mode involves quick thinking and luck. You need to be fast to position the pieces right for when your limited Pac-Men appear, and you need to be lucky to get good pieces along the way. Early on the puzzles are easy, as you go along they get very difficult. Versus mode against a friend can be very fun, since two of the best, most addictive games ever made have come together here.
Pac-Attack boasts several different play modes to mix the action up a little, and there are 100 different levels in all. As if the game weren't addictive enough already, it lets you save your progress by using a password so you'll always have something to come back to. If you're a fan of either of this game's inspirations, you'll love the combination.
