Sega has teamed up with superstar puckster Mario Lemieux to bring you Mario Lemieux Hockey. You or you and a friend can compete in an exhibition match or a 16-team tournament. If you just want to hone your offensive and defensive skills, you can select the practice mode. You can even practice your punches, roundhouses, uppercuts, and other fighting moves without actually getting involved in a real game. Once you do start a real game, you can turn off the fighting option if you prefer violence-free hockey.
You'll also need to decide whether you want a fair, tough, or blind referee and if you want to play by pro league rules, which can be a little strict in the infraction-calling department. There are three skill levels and four period-lengths to choose from. Other options and features include team skill ratings, penalties, checking, player substitutions, shootouts, and passwords for saving options and tournament games.
Even though Mario Lemieux Hockey acks an official NHL or NHLPA license, you still get the same intensity and hard-hitting action of professional hockey and you get one of the best players to ever play the game, too!
