Nothing's worse than Colonel Brown's sludge! He's spread it throughout North Sterling- ton's sewers, causing animals to mutate into the most hideous creatures. In this unique scroller, you must stop these sludge monsters before the nasty Colonel takes over the town.

ProTip: Near the end of the first stage, use your ball to spring above the rope for a heart and a burger!

He's a Sludge Hammer

Luckily, Marko and his football -- well, soccer ball to us here in the colonies -- come to the town's rescue. The sludge has given Marko's ball the ability to mow through the town's myriad nasties. He can also use it to bounce higher than normal jumping distance.

  • On Level 2, push this box over the spikes and do a running jump to reach the platform above. Immediately leap up, and you'll find a cache of bonus items.
  • This location in Stage 4 brings you an extra life.

Domark has done some fabulous animation in the game. Marko and his surroundings have a heavy cartoon appearance, from Marko's oversized head to the goofy- looking characters he faces.

The musical accompaniment is crisp, but the sound effects are weak or, at times, tired and unoriginal.

The game offers deep game play and loads of fun, but the enjoyment is pulled down a few pegs by the control mechanics. Marko maneuvers the ball in various ways, and you sometimes get frustrated when you can't direct it just where you want -- or even get the ball on your foot quickly.

Close to the Maiko

Marko's mixture of cartoony graphics and fairly intricate controls is often confusing, which could alienate some gamers -- it's like an overloaded Mario game. If you're looking for a uniquely designed game, however, Marko's Magic Football is a kick.

Game Reviews

Don't start thinking helmets and shoulder pads. This "football" is of the European variety - we call it soccer. Marko isn't a sports title, either. In this one-player game, Marko kicks a checkered ball around the 10 progressively difficult levels, but the ball has a life of its own. Marko must use this to his advantage to beat more than 100 enemies using his best "football" skills. You'll get a kick out of this side-scrolling action game when it appears next April.

Joe Marko and his magic Football (it's a soccer ball to us - but remember, this is Europe) as he gets himself into all sorts of trouble.

Chase your ball through a number of fun levels that are throughout the city. On your chase, you will go through an attic, the park, and downtown. Beware the pedestrians who don't like little kids running about.

Markos Magic Football is a colorful game. The fully animated cinemas are rendered very well, due to the memory capacity of the Mega CD. In making this game, hundreds of animations were used to make it smooth. Who knows if it will ever come here?

Namco has created a brand-new RPG. Using hot graphics that closely resemble those of Square's Final Fantasy engine, players will find themselves immersed in an epic adventure.

This game is chock-full of lots of explosive magics. Tales of Phantasia is sure to give Super Famicom owners days of adventuring. Hopefully Namco will decide to translate this game over to the Game Boy in America.

Marko, with the aid of his magical football, must defeat Colonel Brown and his army of sewer-dwelling sludge monsters that are causing people to mutate into dangerous creatures.

This is Marko's cartoon madness where soccer is what they're calling football. Using your best soccer skills, you and Marko kick your way through incredible graphics and platform action.

With the help of a mad scientist, Colonel Brown, the owner of a toy factory, has created a substance that can turn people and animals into mutant sludge monsters. After Marko's football comes in touch with the substance, it gets magical powers and Marko sets out to stop Colonel Brown.

In this game Marko can shoot his ball to kill enemies or use it as a trampoline.
