Based on the movie of the same name, it's your duty to guide Lieutenant Ripley through Fiorina 161 prison camp in search of survivors… and aliens. Using your pulse rifle, grenade launcher, and blowtorch, you must work your way through six levels of intense side-scrolling action. With your trusty motion tracker, you'll be warned of other life forms as they draw near, the only question is, is it a friend or a foe? As you move through the complex you'll have to free the cocooned prisoners that the aliens have designated as their next meal, while making sure you don't become a victim yourself. The aliens are quick and relentless, but you're humanity's only hope in this adrenaline-pumping masterpiece.

You play as Ripley. You must find and free all the captives hidden around the levels while avoiding the nasty Alien and before the time runs out and aliens burst out. You'll have three weapons at your disposal in your effort to rid the colony of aliens: a pulse rifle, a flame-thrower, and a grenade launcher. A motion tracker will help warn you of impending doom as you make your way through the maze-like air shafts and gloomy cell blocks. Access various computer terminals to receive level blueprints and select your assignments, which range from sealing off doors to rescuing cocooned prisoners. A password system allows you to continue your adventure until the final showdown with the Alien Queen herself.

Alien3 graphics are an important part in setting the mood and tone for the game. They are every bit as dark and gloomy as the movie was, but yet there is enough color to make you stand up and take notice of what a great looking cart this is. Ripley looks authentic, right down to the stubble of her shaved head, and the fluidity of her movements are incredible.

The soundtrack and sound effects are pretty good and add that dark moodiness to the game in tandem with the graphics, but I found myself getting annoyed with the music after a while. The sounds of the machine gun and flame thrower sound as though they lifted them straight from the movie.

Alien 3 is video game based on the movie sequel of the same name. The plot of the movie picks up directly after the end of Aliens. Ellen Ripley, the main character of the Alien series, is in cryo-sleep aboard the space ship Sulaco. Unfortunately, an alien or two has stowed away on the Sulaco, and wreaked havoc within the ship. Thus, it crash lands on the prison colony planet Fiorina 161. Ripley and the unarmed prisoners have to figure out a way to survive the alien who terrorize the colony until help arrives.

The game play of the various Alien 3 conversions varies from platform to platform. The Genesis Alien 3 game is side scrolling action game with large maze-like levels. In each level, you have to rescue all the trapped prisoners and then make your way to the exit, all while surviving multiple alien attacks.

In Alien3 the gamer (as Ripley) has access to computer terminals throughout the level. At these terminals you are allocated missions such as welding doors to keep out aliens, fixing power lines, and of course hunting aliens (or maybe be hunted-heh! heh!). This makes the cart have a very PC type feel to the gameplay, plus it makes you feel like you are right in on the action. Be forewarned, this is not an easy cart to finish, the levels are long and the action is fast and furious.

Alien3 is a helluva a lot of fun to play. It is time consuming and frustrating at times, but that is the games real appeal. The aliens in all their various forms look great and when you die you get to hear Bill Paxton from Aliens tell you “Game Over Man. Game Over.” Don't forget, that to move to the next level, you must complete all missions.
